Project proposal
Boarding complex project (phase1)
The project
What is the project?
Our project involves moving the boarding facilities to the mang’u side from the st francis side
This will involve building a boarding complex that has the capacity to accommodate 4 streams of 800 girls.
The boarding complex project is estimated to cost Ksh 38,140,922 as per the bills O quantities dated 23rd June 2009
The parents have raised Ksh 2,73,017 million as atnow. Construction account no 0110074941000 co-operative bank thika branch
Our prayer
Financial assistance towards the ksh 38.2 million needed to complete the first phase of our development plan by 2011
Project justification
The project was identified as starting point in master development done by the then P T A chairman prof. Sibilike Makhanu and the department of civil engineering at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)
Currently the ministry of public works (MOPW) has taken over as the Project Manager. A copy of Preliminary repot, dated October 2008, is enclosed herewith.
The ministry in collaboration with the school infrastructure committee (SIC) will provide a detailed master plan by the end of this year. It will be forwarded to the D E B and all other relevant offices.
The realization f the project would put the school on the Mang’u side compound.
It would cut down on the cost of running the school in term of
Human resources /personnel.
Lighting / electricity
It would increase students security as they no longer would have to cover ¾ km between the tuition (Mang’u) and boarding side.
The local community would benefit in that the boarding side could revert to another independent school in the Gatundu north district.
The current dorms were meant for a class of only 35 and now they have to accommodate 45+ students.
It very costly to maintain the old buildings done by the missionaries in the 1920s.
It would raise the students self esteemed and they would strongly identify with the school and therefore better results
It would save the time spent crossing between the two compounds for teaching and learning.
Problem statement
The school has a unique problem in that it occupies two compounds with the busy Thika-Naivasha- Nakuru road (white sisters road) between them.
This structure affects the distribution of all types of resources human material and physical creating a lot of problems when any plans tro expand the school are discussed.
The girls have the difficult task of crossing the at 4.30am for morning preps and 10.00pm after the night preps. Some times they have to cross the road when it is raining or at total darkness when electricity fails.
Accommodation of the school on the old mang’u side would increase accessibility and quality of education provided by the school.
It would also make it more cost effective to run it.
Objectives of he project
To realize the project in year period i.e. achieve the construction of two 400 capacity blocks between 2010-2015
It is a security measure for the safety of both the students and other members of the school community.
To have the school on one compound.
Cut down on the administrative cost e.g. in terms of electricity human resources water.
To hand over the boarding side / St. Francis side to the local community for probably another division/ district or a project of its own choice.
To increase accessibility, quality, equity and relevance in the education offered to the girl child by the school in line with the government of Kenya education sector support programme (KESSP)
Anticipated result
What will the project achieve?
Two blocks of 400 capacity i.e. 800 students (currently 3 streams)
The school will be on one compound the old Mang’u high school site.
It will make management and administration of the school more effective and efficient.
It will reduce the school’s cost e.g. resources, such as human electricity water etc.
Reduce the student’s security risks when crossing the busy high way and also save more of their time for leaning.
We expect to further improve in academic performance by achieving a K C S E mean score of 10.50 by 2010.
This will enable us to plan for the next phase of the school’s expansion programme in line with the government policy of expanding and renovating existing schools so as to add relevance, equity, accessibility and quality to education offered by our school.
